One of the most important books on higher education published in recent years is Scholarship Reconsidered, written by the late Ernest Boyer, former president of Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching. In the book Boyer analyzes four forms of scholarship-discovery (research), application, integration, and teaching-and invites us to reconsider the traditional balance among them.
