Nutritional status of black elders: A review of the relevant literature
|
Abstract: This article summarizes the literature concerning the nutritional status of older Black Americans and draws the following conclusions: (a) Dietary studies show low nutrient intakes for elderly Blacks compared to Whites and to the Recommended Dietary Allowances. (b) Anthropometric, clinical and biochemical evaluations indicate ethnic differences. (c) Empirical data are lacking on the relation of socioeconomic and other factors to the nutritional status of older Blacks. (d) Systematic research studies are needed to determine the consequence of the Black experience and subgroup ...
