Introduction

Green apophyllite with mesolite from Poona, velvety white okenite puffballs from Bombay, water-clear apophyllite from Jalgaon, pale golden powellite from Nasik, and intensely blue cavansite from Wagholi are the paragons of Indian basalt minerals. These and other fine minerals have been mined in vast quantities since the 1970's. Only a few regions in the world have produced in such a short time such great numbers of superb mineral specimens as has the Deccan traprock region in India.
