INTRODUCTION

Coccidioides immitis is a biphasic fungus existing in either a saprophytic form endemic in the soil of the southwestern regions of North America or a parasitic form in humans and other mammals. Most commonly presenting as a pulmonary infection, coccidioidomycosis may have a number of disseminated manifestations. Although most prevalent in endemic regions, coccidioidomycosis is increasingly diagnosed in visitors to endemic regions.
