William (Count) Basie, died April 26, 1984 after leading his illustrious orchestra into international fame as an ensemble of virtuoso musicians who jammed with tumultuous rhythms. They swung with tremendous passion. After The Count passed away, the orchestra continued to perform under different directors.

Nearly a generation or two now inhabits the earth who never knew or even heard the sounds of Count Basie, however, the Symphony Center will provide opportunity for contemporary audiences to listen to the sound of the famous pianist/director during its "Swing in the New Year!" session with ...
