Costa Mesa-based Black Fly Industries Inc. has cut its staff and shifted its strategy in a turnaround bid.
Once hot in the 1990s, the brand has struggled in the past two years as companies such as San Clemente-based Electric Visual Evolution and Irvine-based Billabong USA's Von Zipper brand have eroded its market share.
"Von Zipper and Electric have the hype that we had eight to 10 years ago," said Arty Hargrove, Black Fly national sales manager.
