Trivia question: what opera inaugurated the Teatro alla Scala? Answer: Europa Riconosciuta, libretto by Mattia Verazi, music by Antonio Salieri. Although La Scala's traditional season opening has always been December 7 (the feast day of Sant' Ambrogio, patron saint of Milan), the inauguration took place during summer -- August 3, 1778.
