Jacob Neusner persuades us that Jews rightly enjoy a good argument reminding us that both "the Torah, and how the Torah is authentically studied, teach us to value argument and respect difference." In support ofhis claim, he offers some lively Talmudic stories. I want here to revisit one of them, the well known story of Akhnai's Oven (Baba Metzia 59 ab), to show that the seldom cited concluding part of the story reinforces Neusner's argument.
