President Clinton is nominating Gen. Michael E. Ryan, 56, commander of U.S. Air Forces in Europe and commander of Allied Air Forces Central Europe, to be the next Air Force chief of staff.
The President said that General Ryan brings to the job "broad operational and joint experience as well as proven leadership ability and a deep concern for the men and women of the U.S. Air Force."
