Tunisia: Relationship with the European Union

Tunisia was the first country to sign an Association Agreement with the European Union. According to the terms of the Agreement, the EU and its Association partners will introduce a Free Trade Zone in 2010. This will mean that tariffs and other protective barriers will be eliminated. The question is: Will Tunisia be able to compete on equal terms with European countries? Preparations for this momentous change are well under way.
