OC's Hispanic Grocers See Mexico Giant's Entry as Good, If Not a Little Worrisome

Among Orange County's Hispanic grocery stores, the pending arrival of Mexico's Grupo Gigante SA de CV is like having a Wal-Mart come to town.

Gigante is Mexico's third-largest retailer with sales of $1.5 billion for the first half of 2002. The company operates some 270 stores across Mexico, from convenience stores and supermarkets to RadioShack and Office Depot outlets.
