William G. Bainbridge, 5th Sergeant Major of the Army, 1925-2008

William G. Bainbridge, the fifth Sergeant Major of the Army and a former member of the Association of the U.S. Army's Council of Trustees, died in November in Palm Bay, FIa., at the age of 83.

AUSA President Gen. Gordon R. Sullivan, U.S. Army retired, said: "The U.S. Army and our nation have lost a courageous, history-making American, soldier-warrior and noncommissioned officer who served his country with dedication and humility - both in and out of uniform - for more than 65 years. I am proud to have served with a man of such stature who was respected and admired by all those he touched."
