As a guaranteed crowd puller, Opera North brought their 1993 production of Puccini's La Boheme to Salford's architecturally eccentric Lowry Theatre on 4 October. It is a few years since I last saw this production and I must say that it still holds together very well. A different cast, headed by the wonderful Mary Plazas singing a poignant Mimi with just the right amount of vulnerability. Opposite her, Harne van der Plas sang a heroic Rodolfo, though in the end his rather strident delivery occasionally made his arias seem overlong. William Dazely was a strong Marcello, ...
