Avebury Ships First Nickel Concentrate

OZ Minerals' new Avebury mine shipped its first nickel sulphide concentrate on August 24, 2009. The underground mining operation, located 10 miles west of Zeehan on the west coast of Tasmania, shipped 55 containers-1,355 wet mt-of concentrate through the Port of Burnie. The Avebury mill will ramp up to a throughput rate of 900,000 mt/y of ore and production of 8,500 mt/y of nickel in concentrate over the next quarter. The ore has simple metallurgy and produces a premium flotation concentrate grading above 20% nickel. Concentrate is exported to China.
