It was airy and cold, though not damp, when on Saturday 29 March 2008 the new climate-controlled Cineteca del Friuli vaults were inaugurated. A good omen, many thought, considering that the weather conditions were very close to ideal for a film vault.

The society pages described a simple and elegant inauguration ceremony, in keeping with the Cineteca del Friuli style. No mention was made of any especially glamorous attire, or of the long celebratory speeches given by Livio and Piera. The ceremony was attended ...
