Edge-Column Slab Connections under Gravity and Lateral Loading

ACI Structural Journal | September 1, 2008| | Copyright

Tests of five large-scale rectangular edge-column slab connections are reported. Two specimens were uniaxially laterally loaded, two more specimens were biaxially laterally loaded, and the fifth specimen was tested under gravity load only. The main objective of the experiments was to investigate the effects of column rectangularity, varying magnitudes of gravity loading, as well as cyclic biaxial lateral loading on the connection strength, stiffness, ductility, and drift capacity. Biaxial cyclic lateral loading was found to severely reduce the strength, stiffness, ductility, and drift ...

Magazine article from: Railway Age ; It's a given that lateral forces accelerate wear and degradation of the track structure. High lateral forces, which are generated when a vehicle negotiates a curve, can lead to a host of problems such as plate cutting and reverse cant, broken fasteners, and excessive rail wear. When lateral forces
Behavior of slab-column connections with partially debonded reinforcement under lateral loading.(Report)
Magazine article from: Canadian Journal of Civil Engineering ; Introduction The design of a flat plate is often controlled by shear and moment transfer between the slab and the columns. Shear strength becomes more critical with lateral load caused by wind or earthquake. Lateral loads produce moment transfers at the slab-column connection, which may lead to
