When my kids were young, they referred to the sun and moon as Brother Sun and Sister Moon. They expanded their horizons as they got older, and now. every summer, when one of the first warm evenings arrives after the long and cold New England winter, my husband, 1 and our kids sit outside, look up to the heavens and wonder about the fate of our stellar friends-that strange and interesting cast of red giants, white and brown dwarfs, pulsars and black holes.
