HISTORIC SESSIONS SCHOOL HOUSE RE-OPENS AT IONIA STATE RECREATION AREA

The Michigan Department of Natural Resources issued the following news release:

The Department of Natural Resources announces the re-opening of the 161-year old Sessions School House at Ionia State Recreation Area.

Sessions School House was constructed on Alonzo Sessions' land in 1847. It is one of the earliest school houses to have been built in Ionia County. The unique cobblestone construction makes it rare among one-room school houses Michigan. The structure is on the National Register of Historic Places and also on the State Register of Historic Sites.
