Opera North's Macbeth & Romeo & Juliet

For the latest trip to Salford's Lowry Art Centre, Opera North's Shakespeare week opened on 10 June with a performance of Gounod's Romeo & Juliet.
Throughout this wonderful production, the characterisation, singing and sheer sensuality brought a new sense of perspective to the story. Evocative lighting, great acting and an instinctive sense of movement from the chorus (who were magnificent throughout) built up the atmosphere for the principals to work their magic; and did they!!
