Trajectory forms as information for visual event recognition: 3-D perspectives on path shape and speed profile

Trajectory forms in events consist of the path shape and the speed profile (Bingham, 1987, 1995). Wickelgren and Bingham (2004) showed that adults can use the speed profile as visual information to recognize events from different perspectives, despite perspective distortions and differences in optical components. We now investigate whether adults can use trajectory forms to recognize events when the forms are viewed from 3-D perspectives and the path shape and speed profile vary. In Experimen...

How to apply direct-drive linear servomotors: a novel direct-drive linear servomotor with only one moving part needs special design considerations.(BASICS OF DESIGN ENGINEERING: MOTION CONTROL)
Machine Design ; There's a growing demand for smaller linear motors. Manufacturers have developed new direct-drive linear servos in response. Standard rotary servomotors spin lead-screws or pull belt drives to produce linear motion. Direct-drive linear motors are more likely to use self-supporting 3[PHI] coils to
Excessive scapular motion in individuals recovering from painful and stiff shoulders: causes and treatment strategies. (includes conference and author response)
Physical Therapy ; Scapular substitution following unilateral and painful stiff shoulders (UPSS) is often thought to be due to biomechanical factors or pain. In the late stages of recovery from UPSS, however, when range of motion (ROM) and muscle force-generating capacity have been restored, scapular substitutions
Measuring and analyzing vehicle position and speed data at work zones using global positioning systems
Institute of Transportation Engineers. ITE Journal ; THIS FEATURE DEMONSTRATES THAT GPS IS AN EFFICIENT TOOL IN RECORDING VEHICLE POSITION AND SPEED VALUES AND IT CAN PROVIDE ACCURATE AND DETAILED INFORMATION ON TRAFFIC CHARACTERISTICS IN WORK ZONES. INTRODUCTION Global Positioning Systems (GPS) are gradually becoming an alternative tool for traffic
The Use of a Nonlinear Muscle Model in Explaining the Relationship Between Duration, Amplitude, and Peak Velocity of Human Rapid Movements.
Journal of Motor Behavior ; ABSTRACT. Rapid human movements exhibit a quasilinear relationship between their amplitude and maximum velocity and a log-like relationship between their amplitude and duration. The authors demonstrate that those well-observed relations can be obtained with a simple nonlinear muscle model and a
Laser sensor head.(Products)
Quality ; The Class II, 3r and Class IIIb Selcom SLS 2401 provide accurate measurement in a tight work envelope requiring a faster sampling rate, higher resolution and higher speed profile of problematic areas. The sensor has a measuring range of 20 millimeters or 50 millimeters, depending on the model
