Summary

Dopamine (DA) is known as a primary regulator of prolactin secretion (PRL) and angiotensin II (Ang II) has been recognized as one brain inhibitory factor of this secretion. In this work, estrogen-primed or unprimed ovariectomized rats were submitted to the microinjection of saline or Ang II after previous microinjection of saline or of DA antagonist (haloperidol, sulpiride or SCH) both in the medial preoptic area (MPOA). Our study of these interactions has shown that 1) estroge...

Role of Leptin on Growth Hormone and Prolactin Secretion by Bovine Pituitary Explants
Journal of Dairy Science ; ABSTRACT Leptin is an important hormone regulating nutritional status in humans and animals. Its most relevant activity is at the hypothalamic level, where it modulates food behavior, thermogenesis, and secretion of several pituitary hormones. The exact mechanisms underlying these processes are
Soybean isoflavones dose-dependently reduce bone turnover but do not reverse established osteopenia in adult ovariectomized rats
The Journal of Nutrition ; Soybean Isoflavones Dose-Dependently Reduce Bone Turnover but Do Not Reverse Established Osteopenia in Adult Ovariectomized Rats1 ABSTRACT We assessed the dose-dependent effects of daily soybean isoflavone (IF) consumption in reversing bone loss in adult ovariectomized rats. On d 0, female Wistar
EFFECT OF DHEA ORAL ADMINISTRATION ON ALLOPREGNANOLONE CENTRAL AND PERIPHERAL LEVELS IN OVARIECTOMIZED RATS
Gynecological Endocrinology ; P111 Allopregnanolonc is a 3 -[alpha], 5-[alpha] reduced metabolite of progesterone and his major source of produc tion are the gonads and adrenal cortex, and, to a lesser extent, the central nervous system (CNS). Allopregnanolone acts as an agonist of [gamma] -aminobutyric acidA (GABAA) receptor,

A combination of dietary fructooligosaccharides and isoflavone conjugates increases femoral bone mineral density and equol production in ovariectomized mice
The Journal of Nutrition ; ABSTRACT Fructooligosaccharides (FOS) stimulate the growth of bifidobacteria, which cleave isoflavone conjugates to yield the corresponding aglycones and metabolites. In a previous study, FOS modified the absorption and enterohepatic recirculation of isoflavones in rats. In the present study, we

Dietary genistein affects brain protein synthesis rates in ovariectomized female rats
The Journal of Nutrition ; ABSTRACT The purpose of this study was to determine whether genistein affects the rate of brain protein synthesis in ovariectomized female rats. Experiments were conducted on three groups of 12-wk-old female rats: those in group 1 were ovariectomized to reduce the level of plasma sex hormone; those
