ABSTRACT
A total of 9592 samples of half udder milk were collected monthly throughout lactation for bacteriological and somatic cell count (SCC) study from 1322 Churra ewe lactations from seven separate flocks enrolled in the recording scheme of the National Association of Spanish Churra Breeders in the Castile-Leon region of Spain. Statistical analyses were carried out from a mixed model with random factor half udder or ewe for repeated measures. Test of significance of fixed effects...

Elevated milk soluble CD14 in bovine mammary glands challenged with Escherichia coli lipopolysaccharide
Journal of Dairy Science
; ABSTRACT The purpose of this study was to determine whether soluble CD 14 (sCD14) in milk was affected by stage of lactation, milk somatic cell count (SCC), presence of bacteria, or lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced inflammation. Milk samples from 100 lactating cows (396 functional quarters) were

Effect of somatic cell count on proteolysis and lipolysis in pasteurized fluid milk during shelf-life storage1
Journal of Dairy Science
; ABSTRACT The general goal of this research was to provide fluid milk processors with data to enable them to estimate the economic benefits they might derive from longer fluid milk shelf-life or new marketing opportunities due to a reduction in raw milk SCC. The study objectives were: 1) to measure

Genetic and Phenotypic Relationships Among Milk Yield and Somatic Cell Count Before and After Clinical Mastitis
Journal of Dairy Science
; ABSTRACT This paper studies whether cows with originally lower somatic cell count (SCC) are more susceptible to clinical mastitis (CM) than cows with higher somatic cell count, and evaluates the correlations between CM, SCC, and milk yield. Data were extracted from the Finnish national

Influence of Somatic Cell Count and Breed on Capillary Electrophoretic Protein Profiles of Ewes' Milk: A Chemometric Study
Journal of Dairy Science
; ABSTRACT Bulk tank ewe milk from the Assaf, Castellana, and Churra breeds categorized into 3 somatic cell count (SCC) groups (<500,000; 1,000,000 to 1,500,000; and >2,500,000 cells/mL) was used to investigate changes in chemical composition and capillary electrophoresis protein profiles. The

Journal of Dairy Science
; ABSTRACT Two experiments were conducted to study the effect of the stage of a spontaneous estrus cycle on milk yield and constituents [somatic cell count (SCC), fat, protein, caseins, lactose, and urea content] and on estrogen receptor945; (ERα) and progesterone receptor (PR) immunostaining in

Taste and SCC: low SCC in fluid milk can lead to more premiums, more sales.(somatic cell count)
Dairy Today
; Insight into how varying somatic cell count (SCC) levels affect taste and shelf life of pasteurized milk may lead to fatter milk quality premiums and more sales, hopes David Barbano, a food scientist at Cornell University. Premiums for lower-SCC milk have been motivated by the cheese makers

Effects of Somatic Cell Count and Stage of Lactation on the Plasmin Activity and Cheese-Making Properties of Ewe Milk
Journal of Dairy Science
; ABSTRACT The experiment was conducted from March to July 2002 using 5 intensively managed flocks of Southern Italy. In each flock, 2 groups of 50 ewes were created. The groups were designated LSCC (low somatic cell count [SCC]) when their milk SCC was lower than 500,000/mL and HSCC (high SCC) when

Journal of Dairy Science

Microbiological quality and somatic cell count of ewe milk with special reference to staphylococci
Journal of Dairy Science
; ABSTRACT A total 1502 useful half udders of 762 Churra ewes from eight herds were aseptically sampled in midlactation to study both the bacteriological isolates and the SCC of milk. Corynebacteria, enterococci, micrococci, staphylococci, and streptococci represented 11.2, 2.9, 1.4, 78.9, and 3.1%
