An estimated 1 in 250 Americans lives with aphasia.1 Aphasia is a language disorder that affects the production and comprehension of both written and spoken language, and generally occurs as a result of a left hemisphere cerebrovascular accident (CVA) or other brain injury. Given the incidence of 100,000 new diagnoses each year,1 occupational therapy practitioners working with neurological populations can expect to interact frequently with people who have aphasia.
