Tumor necrosis factor α (TNF-α) blockade has emerged as a useful therapy for collagen vascular diseases or graft-vs-host disease. Fungal infections complicating such therapy have been reported sporadically. MEDLINE and PubMed databases (from January 1, 1966, to June 1, 2007) were searched for reports of invasive fungal infections (IFIs) associated with the 3 available anti-TNF-α agents, ie, infliximab, etanercept, and adalimumab. Of the 281 cases of IFI associated with TNF-^...

Changing populations driving fungal infections
Drug Topics
; Fungal infections are on the increase, but not for all the usual reasons. Increasing rates of bacterial and viral infections are due in large part to growing resistance to antimicrobials, but fungi and antifungals are different. It's not that resistance has emerged as a major problem, but that

Systemic fungal infections in neonates
Journal of Postgraduate Medicine
; Advances in neonatal management have led to considerable improvement in newborn survival. However, early (< 72 hour) and late (>72 hour) onset systemic infections, both bacterial and fungal, remain a devastating complication and an important cause of morbidity and mortality in these babies.

^sup 123^I-Labeled Chitinase as Specific Radioligand for In Vivo Detection of Fungal Infections in Mice
The Journal of Nuclear Medicine
; Given the scarcity of diagnostic tools for invasive fungal infections, the aim of this project was to develop new, specific radiopharmaceuticals for diagnosis of fungal infections. Chitin, which is expressed in the fungal cell wall but is absent in mammalian and bacterial cells, represents a

Twenty years later, fungal infections, emergence of resistance still on rise
Dermatology Times
; New Orleans - The incidence and severity of opportunistic fungal infections are on the rise at a time when resistant fungi are emerging. Pathobiology of fungal infections of the central nervous system with special reference to the Indian scenario
Neurology India
; Fungi are ubiquitous in nature, but the distribution of fungal infections in a community depends on the environment, the climatic conditions, socioeconomic status of the human hosts, their habits and genetic factors. The ability of fungi to adapt to the elevated body temperature and reduced redox
