Healthy moms decrease prematurity
|
For a healthy baby, timing often is everything. Babies born after 37 weeks of a pregnancy are considered full term and those born sooner are premature. According to the March of Dimes, one in eight babies born in the U.S. is premature. The incidence rises to one in six for Black Americans. Considering that prematurity is a leading cause of infant mortality, the question of why Blacks have more premature births deserves serious attention.
