NEW DELHI, India, Jan. 23 -- Only the "Shiv Sena pattern" will work in Maharashtra. Talking to reporters at his Bandra residence on his 81st birthday, Shiv Sena Chief Bal Thackeray rubbished the influence of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati in the state.

"People from Maharashtra will prefer the Shiv Sena over these two. Why would Dalits from Maharashtra go to Mayawati?" he asked. Earlier, in the last part of his interview to party mouthpiece Saamna, Thackeray said: "People in Maharashtra are smart and would not ...
