This week's Torah portion is Vayigash, Genesis 44:18 - 47:27.

Informality seems to be the rule of the day; everywhere one goes, casual speech and dress are most appropriate. It no longer seems necessary to stand when a lady enters the room. And it appears that children are allowed to talk back to their elders, no matter the age of the children, whether adult or not.

It is therefore refreshing to read the beautiful, courteous language of the Torah, especially in this week's Torah portion of Vayigash. As beautiful as it is in the original, the English translations do reflect correctly the ...
