Pa Hi Atu Health Model: A Tokelau Perspective

Introduction
Health promotion tools can be defined as guidelines or strategies utilised to empower individuals to take control over their lives (McMurray, 2003). The following project proposes a health model with the aim of providing health practitioners with a better understanding of Tokelau health concepts and values.
I have chosen to use the pa hi atu (Tokelau fishing lure) as symbolic of an ideal state of health for the Tokelau individual. I chose this particular symbol primarily because Tokelau people have traditionally relied on fishing as a means of survival, and today it remains an ...
