Abstract Superfine wool of Merino sheep has many distinct characteristics, especially its higher fineness. Generally, its mean diameter is about 16.5 µm and it is a good material for fine worsted fabrics. However, the region near the tip of a primary fiber has a coarser fiber diameter, with a value of 35-66 µm. The length of such a segment is usually up to 16-22 mm. The secondary fiber also has a small swelling segment near the tip, but the length of this segment is very short and difficult...

Measurement Precision and Evaluation of the Diameter Profiles of Single Wool Fibers
Textile Research Journal ; Abstract A recent model of the Single Fiber Analyzer 3001 (SIFAN3001) was firstly employed to obtain the single wool fiber diameter profiles (S^sub f^FDPs) at multiple orientations. The results showed that using SIFAN3001 to measure fiber diameter at four orientations for 50 single fibers randomly
Attenuating PP/PET bicomponent melt blown microfibers.(polyethylene terephthalate)
Polymer Engineering and Science ; INTRODUCTION Melt blowing is one of the most popular processes for making ultra-fine fibers on the micrometer or sub-micrometer scale. It is finding applications in an increasing number of fields, such as filtration, absorbency, hygiene and apparel. Many significant efforts have been made to better
Mechanical behavior of irregular fibers part III: Flexural Buckling Behavior
Textile Research Journal ; ABSTRACT Fiber buckling behavior is associated with fabric-evoked prickle, which affects clothing comfort and aesthetics. In this paper, the flexural buckling behavior of irregular or nonuniform fibers is studied using the finite element method (FEM). Fiber dimensional irregularities are simulated
The Effects of Cashmere Attributes on the Efficiency of Dehairing and Dehaired Cashmere Length
Textile Research Journal ; Abstract This study investigated the effects of raw cashmere attributes on the efficiency of dehairing and on dehaired cashmere length. The results show that the following attributes of raw cashmere were associated with more efficient processing and/or the production of longer cashmere: white
Modeling polymer air drawing in the melt blowing nonwoven process
Textile Research Journal ; ABSTRACT An air drawing model of a polymer in a melt blowing process is presented and solved by introducing the numerical computation results of the air jet flow field of the dual slot die. The model's prediction of fiber diameter tallies well with the experimental data. The effects of processing
Understanding Hair Development
Dermatology Times ; Researchers suggest another piece to puzzle of eflornithine mechanism of action in PFB Chicago - New findings from ongoing research aiming to delineate the mechanism of action of eflornithine hydrochloride 13.9 percent cream (Vaniqa) in the treatment of pseudofolliculitis barbae (PFB) indicate that
Electrospinning of polyamides with different chain compositions for filtration application.(Technical report)
Polymer Engineering and Science ; Electrospinning of several polyamides, PA6, PA66, PA612, PA614, PA1012, and PA1014, having different chain compositions and lengths of diacid and diamine segments, was demonstrated. Electrospinnability and fiber production rate of these polyamides were evaluated. Electrospun fibers were
Effects of processing parameters on the filament fiber diameter of spunbonded nonwoven fabrics.
Polymer Engineering and Science ; INTRODUCTION Spunbonding is a single step process for converting plastic pellets into nonwoven fabrics, which dates back to 1950's [1-4]. Almost all thermoplastic resins can be processed on spunbonding equipment. The molten polymer is extruded through a series of fine spinneret holes and is drawn
Shearing Time of Mediterranean Wools and Fabric Skin Comfort
Textile Research Journal ; ABSTRACT The effect of the time of shearing on the skin comfort of fabrics produced from Mediterranean wool is measured. These studies confirm that shearing time can affect fabric skin comfort. The observed changes in fabric skin comfort are in line with the observed differences in the percentage
Effects of yarn and knitting parameters on the spirality of plain knitted wool fabrics
Textile Research Journal ; ABSTRACT Spirality is a particularly serious problem for plain knitted fabrics due to asymmetric loops. This study investigates the relationship between the spirality of plain wool knits and various variables. The experimental results show that the twist factor of two-ply wool yarn is the most
