Summary
Anorexia nervosa (AN) is characterized by self-induced starvation leading to severe weight and fat loss. In the present study, we measured fasting plasma levels of adiponectin, leptin, resistin, insulin and glucose in 10 women with a restrictive type of AN and in 12 healthy women (C). Insulin sensitivity was determined according to homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-R). Plasma resistin, leptin and insulin levels were significantly decreased, whereas plasma...

Nutritional and developmental regulation of plasma leptin in dairy cattle1
Journal of Dairy Science
; ABSTRACT Leptin is thought to play a critical role in regulating energy metabolism throughout mammalian life. In growing dairy cattle, plasma leptin has been proposed as a partial mediator of the effects of nutrition on reproductive and mammary development. However, the developmental stage at which

Evaluation of the effects of various gestagens on insulin sensitivity, using homeostatic model assessment, in postmenopausal women on hormone replacement therapy
Gynecological Endocrinology
; Abstract The objective of the present study was to compare the effects of various gestagens on insulin sensitivity in postmenopausal women on hormone replacement therapy (HRT). This prospective study enrolled 156 postmenopausal women who had menopausal status for at least 6 months. Group 1 was

Plasma Leptin Is Regulated Predominantly by Nutrition in Preruminant Lambs1
The Journal of Nutrition
; ABSTRACT In juvenile and mature animals, the plasma concentration of leptin is regulated by adiposity and nutrition. However, the timing of these influences on plasma leptin, and their relative importance in early postnatal life, are unknown. We investigated these plasma leptin influences in sheep,

Demonstration of a role for insulin in the regulation of leptin in lactating dairy cows1
Journal of Dairy Science
; ABSTRACT In lactating dairy cows, the onset of negative net energy balance (EB) at parturition causes a reduction in plasma leptin and is also associated with increased concentration of growth hormone (GH) and decreased concentration of insulin. These observations raise the possibility that
