|
Oral cancers form a major bulk of the cancers seen in head and neck cancer services. Surgical excision of the primary lesion and the cervical lymph nodes form the mainstay of treatment in most instances with the addition of radiation or chemotherapy as an adjuvant depending on the stage of the disease at presentation. The cosmetic, functional and psychosocial results of oral cancer treatment may combine to produce devastating effects on the patient, especially if the tumour is extensive or the treatment particularly aggressive.
