Friday Night Marks the Solemn Holiday of Yom Kippur and the Anniversary of the Yom Kippur War

The Israel Project issued the following news release:
Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar, begins Friday night. This year, the holiday also marks the 34th anniversary of the Yom Kippur War when Israel was attacked [1] as many Jews were in synagogues observing rules of fasting and praying.
During Yom Kippur, the Day of Atonement, Jews don't eat or drink for 25 hours as they pray for forgiveness for their sins. The holiday comes eight days after Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. In Israel, Yom Kippur is observed even by many secular Jews, and most activity is suspended, ...
