Many calculus teachers agree that one of the most difficult concepts to teach is volumes by integration - using revolution (disks, washers, and shells) and cross-section (Figure 1). Some have employed traditional lecture and discussion, specially prepared transparencies, personally constructed "spin toys", a slicing fruits and vegetables demonstration, and software such as Calculus in Motion to illustrate the concepts of volume by integration.
