Mathew Brady's camera captured some of America's most important and worstmoments.
Justin Mathew Whitmore stood in awe of war's death and destruction. The 16-year-old Eagle Scout knew the Civil War had killed hundreds of thousands of soldiers and wounded many more. He understood it was a horrific time, when political differences pitted brother against brother in battles so bloody that rivers flowed red.
But as he studied the 130-year-old photographs by Mathew Brady, Justin realized he had never fully imagined the tragedy of the War Between the States.
