Summary

Our previous studies have shown that the combined administration of drugs elevating extracellular adenosine, i.e. dipyridamole (DP) and adenosine monophosphate (AMP), enhances murine hematopoiesis and potentiates the action of granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF). In this study, colony-stimulating activity (CSA) of blood serum of mice treated with DP+AMP, G-CSF or all these drugs in combination, i.e. the ability of the sera to stimulate the growth of GM-CFC colonies, w...

Drugs Elevating Extracellular Adenosine Administered in vivo Induce Serum Colony-Stimulating Activity and Interleukin-6 in Mice
Physiological Research ; Summary Our previous studies have shown that the combined administration of drugs elevating extracellular adenosine, i.e. dipyridamole (DP) and adenosine monophosphate (AMP), enhances murine hematopoiesis and potentiates the action of granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF). In this study,
Adenosine Potentiates Stimulatory Effects on Granulocyte-Macrophage Hematopoietic Progenitor Cells in Vitro of IL-3 and SCF, but Not Those of G-CSF, GM-CSF and IL-11
Physiological Research ; Summary The aim of the studies was to ascertain if adenosine is able to co-operate with selected hematopoietic growth factors and cytokines, namely with granulocyte colony-stimulating factor (G-CSF), granulocyte-macrophage colony-stimulating factor (GM-CSF), stem cell factor (SCF), interleukin-3
Evidence of a Novel Cell Signaling Role for Extracellular Adenosine Triphosphates and Diphosphates in Arabidopsis
Plant Cell ; Extracellular ATP is a known receptor agonist in animals and was previously shown to alter plant growth, and so we investigated whether ATP derivatives could function outside plant cells as signaling agents. Signaling responses induced by exogenous nucleotides in animal cells typically include
Effects of purine nucleotides and nucleoside on cytosolic calcium levels in rat tracheal smooth muscle cells
American Journal of Respiratory Cell and Molecular Biology ; Extracellular adenosine triphosphate (ATP) has a range of effects on a wide variety of cells through the activation of specific purinoceptors. The aim of this study was to establish whether P^sub 2^ purinoceptors are present on airway smooth muscle cells. Experiments were conducted on cultured rat
Mechanisms of the potentiation by adenosine of adenosine triphosphate-induced calcium release in tracheal smooth-muscle cells
American Journal of Respiratory Cell and Molecular Biology ; The effects of concomitant Pi-receptor stimulation on peak intracellular Ca2+ release by extracellular adenosine 5'-triphosphate (ATP) and 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) were investigated in cultured airway smooth-muscle (ASM) cells. The results show that peak Ca2+ release to ATP is enhanced by
In Vitro Evaluation of Adenosine 5'-Monophosphate as an Imaging Agent of Tumor Metabolism
The Journal of Nuclear Medicine ; Adenosine appears to play an important role in tumor growth and metastasis. Synthesized ^sup 11^C-adenosine 5'-monophosphate (AMP) has recently been reported as a potential tumor-imaging radiotracer. Methods: A variety of human tumor cell lines (SKOV-3, SCC-15, U251, U87, Raji, and Daudi) were
PET imaging of adenosine A^sub 1^ receptors with ^sup 11^C-MPDX as an indicator of severe cerebral ischemic insult
The Journal of Nuclear Medicine ; We examined whether measurement of the adenosine A^sub 1^ receptor (A1-R) with PET can predict the severity of ischemic brain damage using an occlusion and reperfusion model of the cat middle cerebral artery (MCA) and [1-methyl-^sup 11^C]8-dicyclopropylmethyl-1-methyl-3-propylxanthine (MPDX), a
Processes influencing wakefulness: excerpted from sleep: excessive sleepiness.(Illustrated Insights Serials--NEW!)(Excerpt)
Psychopharmacology Educational Updates (PsychEd Up) ; While many factors can influence arousal, such as hunger and activity, there are two overriding processes to consider. The homeostatic drive for sleep rises during waking periods and is relieved during sleep. In other words, a person builds up a sleep debt when awake and pays it off during sleep.
Anatomy, cell biology, pathology, and animal models
The Annals of Otology, Rhinology & Laryngology ; 4. ANATOMY, CELL BIOLOGY, PATHOLOGY, AND ANIMAL MODELS OBJECTIVE The objective of this Panel was to identify important progress that has been made in the areas of cell biology, anatomy, pathology, and animal models in the past 4 years since the Sixth International Symposium on Recent Advances in
Extracellular ATP Induces the Accumulation of Superoxide via NADPH Oxidases in Arabidopsis1
Plant Physiology ; Extracellular ATP can serve as a signaling agent in animal cells, and, as suggested by recent reports, may also do so in plant cells. In animal cells it induces the production of reactive oxygen species through the mediation of NADPH oxidase. Similarly, here we report that in leaves of Arabidopsis
