Black-White Differential in Support for Immigration

Past research has explained little about how blacks and whites differ in attitudes toward immigration. Using the latest 2000 General Social Survey data, this paper tests two competing hypotheses. The competition hypothesis presumes that blacks are less likely to support immigration than whites because of their stiffer labor-market competition with immigrants.
