ABSTRACT
The essential cation zinc (Zn^sup 2+^) blocks voltage-dependent calcium channels in several cell types, which exhibit different sensitivities to Zn^sup 2+^ . The specificity of the Zn^sup 2+^ effect on voltage-dependent calcium channel subtypes has not been systematically investigated. In this study, we used a transient protein expression system to determine the Zn^sup 2+^ effect on low-and high-voltage activated channels. We found that in Ba^sup 2+^, the IC^sub 50^ value of Z...

Functional Interaction of Ca^sub v^ Channel Isoforms with Ryanodine Receptors Studied in Dysgenic Myotubes
Biophysical Journal
; ABSTRACT The L-type Ca^sup 2+^ channels Ca^sub v^1.1 945;^sub 1S^) and Ca^sub v^1.2 945;^sub 1C^) share properties of targeting but differ by their mode of coupling to ryanodine receptors in muscle cells. The brain isoform Ca^sub v^2.1 945;^sub 1A^) lacks ryanodine receptor targeting. We studied

Kinetics of Ca^sup 2+^ Binding to the SR Ca-ATPase in the E^sub 1^ State
Biophysical Journal
; ABSTRACT The time-resolved kinetics of Ca^sup 2+^ binding to the SR Ca-ATPase in the E^sub 1^ state was investigated by Ca^sup 2concentration jump experiments. Ca^sup 2 was released by an ultraviolet-light flash from caged calcium, and charge movements in the membrane domain of the ion pumps were

Biophysical Journal
; ABSTRACT Hormones that act through the calcium-releasing messenger, inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate (IP^sub 3 cause intracellular calcium oscillations, which have been ascribed to calcium feedbacks on the IP^sub 3^ receptor. Recent studies have shown that IP^sub 3^ levels oscillate together with the

Ca^sub v^1.4 Encodes a Calcium Channel with Low Open Probability and Unitary Conductance
Biophysical Journal
; ABSTRACT When transiently expressed in tsA-201 cells, Ca^sub v^1.4 calcium channels support only modest whole-cell currents with unusually slow voltage-dependent inactivation kinetics. To examine the basis for this unique behavior we used cell-attached patch single-channel recordings using 100 mM

An improved calibration curve between soil pH measured in water and Ca[Cl.sub.2].
Australian Journal of Soil Research
; Introduction The 2 most common measurements of soil pH made in Australian laboratories are in 0.01 M Ca[Cl.sub.2] and in water, both typically at a soil to solution ratio of 1:5. We denote these by p p[H.sub.Ca] and p[H.sub.w] respectively. There are often times, however, when one needs to change
