Australian Inventors Develop Ophthalmoscope with Integral Printer

ALEXANDRIA, Va., July 16 -- Kia Silverbrook and Janette Faye Lee, both of Balmain, Australia, have developed an ophthalmoscope with an integral printer.

According to the U.S. Patent & Trademark Office: "An ophthalmoscope includes a lens and an eyepiece by which an optometrist, ophthalmologist or general medical practitioner can examine the interior of a patient's eye."

An abstract of the invention, released by the Patent Office, said: "The ophthalmoscope includes a handle within which there is situated a printer to provide an instantaneous permanent record of an image as viewed. Upon ...
