Of the major literary figures of the Twentieth Century, Chinua Achebe is, perhaps, least in need of an introduction. As a novelist, poet, and essayist his ability to capture the nuances and ironies of African and Western cultures has made him one of the most widely read authors in the world for almost fifty-years.
