Giant clam invasion slow going

Giant clams are looking for homes in southern Ocean County. OK, not real giant clams - 5-foot-tall, 90-pound fiberglass clams painted by local artists as part of an effort to fund restoring the Barnegat Bay clam population.

To sponsor a clam, be ready to spend $3,500 for one year. The payoff? A sponsorship enables ReClam the Bay to put 400,000 clams in Barnegat Bay or to teach volunteers and others about caring for the bay. The giant clam is also an eye-catching addition to a business.
