Contempt: 'Lakshman rekha' for orders and appeals

NEW DELHI, India, June 3 -- TO WHAT limit can a High Court go while exercising its contempt of court jurisdiction? And what 'final' or 'interlocutory' orders passed by a High Court in its contempt jurisdiction can or cannot be appealed against?
These questions, germane to Section 19 of the Contempt of Courts Act, 1971, were looked into by the Supreme Court sometime back.
Section 19 provides that where an order is passed by a single judge of a High Court 'in exercise of its jurisdiction to punish for contempt', it is appealable before a division bench of that High Court, and where such an ...
