Lawyers tonsure, beat up Dalit youth in court

NEW DELHI, India, May 30 -- LAWYERS IN the city tonsured and beat up a Dalit youth, Vinod, after tying him up to a tree in the court premises on Tuesday. A few even spit on him. Vinod was 'punished' for allegedly threatening a lawyer.
Shortly after TV channels aired the shocking images of the abuse, the lawyers' association formed a five-member committee to investigate the incident. "Some lawyers involved have been identified and their statements are being recorded," said Hemant Bhardwaj, a committee member. A case has been registered at the New Agra police station.
