REVIVING and sustaining a wild stock is perhaps the greatest challenge in conservation biology. When I first climbed Mount Asog 20 years ago to survey its mountain lakes inhabited by the tiny fish, it did not occur to me this work would encompass more than half of my professional lifespan. It is clear now though that the efforts are not only 'bringing back' the fish from the ravages of overexploitation about 30 years ago but also the pride of the Bicolanos.
