SEVERAL FACTORS HAVE MOTIVATED me to bring the Books of Chronicles to our attention at this, the Sixty-ninth International Meeting of the Catholic Biblical Association of America. First, I do not recall a major paper on these books at one of our meetings. The absence of Chronicles as a subject of teaching is fairly widespread. In 2002, when I served as a CBA Visiting Professor at the Pontifical Biblical Institute in Rome, I was asked to offer a class in Chronicles because it had been so long since anyone had done this.
