Pre-Islamic Middle East followed snake cult that originated in India

Washington, May 18 -- Pre-Islamic Middle East was home to mysterious snake cults, and it spread there after originating in India, a new study in this month's Arabian Archaeology and Epigraphy journal has revealed.

The paper by archaeologist Anne Benoist of the Eastern Archaeology Laboratory at the National Center for Scientific Research in France has described an Iron Age temple complex at Al Bithnah in the United Arab Emirates linked to snake cults.
