PET with ^sup 11^C-acetate (^sup 11^C-ACE) has a high sensitivity for detection of prostate cancer and several other cancers that are poorly detected with ^sup 18^F-FDG. However, the short half-life (20.4 min) of ^sup 11^C limits the general availability of ^sup 11^C-ACE. ^sup 18^F-Fluoroacetate (^sup 18^F-FAC) is an analog of acetate with a longer radioactive half-life (^sup 18^F = 110 min). This study was undertaken to assess the potential usefulness of ^sup 18^F-FAC as a prostate tumor ima...

1-^sup 11^C-Acetate Kinetics of Prostate Cancer
The Journal of Nuclear Medicine ; ^sup 18^F-FDG is in widespread use in cancer imaging but has limited utility in staging and monitoring of prostate cancer. 1-^sup 11^C-Labeled acetate, a substrate for the citric acid cycle, is superior. The kinetics of prostate tumors were investigated. Methods: Ten patients with primary prostate
(11)C-acetate PET imaging of prostate cancer
The Journal of Nuclear Medicine ; ^sup 11^C-Acetate can act as a probe of tissue metabolism through entry into catabolic or anabolic metabolic pathways as mediated by acetyl-coenzyme A. The uptake of ^sup 11^C-acetate in prostate cancer was investigated to determine whether this tracer has potential in tumor identification.
Development of (18)F-fluoroethylcholine for cancer imaging with PET: Synthesis, biochemistry, and prostate cancer imaging
The Journal of Nuclear Medicine ; The effectiveness of ^sup 11^C-choline PET in detecting various cancers, including prostate cancer, is well established. This study was aimed at developing an ^sup 18^F-substituted choline analog, ^sup 18^F-fluoroethylcholine (FECh), as a tracer of cancer detection. Methods: No-carrier-added ^sup
PET imaging of prostate cancer using carbon-11-choline
The Journal of Nuclear Medicine ; Prostate cancer is difficult to visualize using current techniques. Recently, ^sup 31^P magnetic resonance spectroscopy has revealed that the tumor, in general, is characterized by an increased uptake of choline into the cell to meet increased synthesis of phosphatidylcholine, an important cell
