Sudan Divestment Authorization Act Introduced in Senate by Sen. Durbin

WASHINGTON, March 15 -- Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Illinois, has introduced the Sudan Divestment Authorization Act of 2007 (S. 831), legislation that would "authorize states and local governments to prohibit the investment of state assets in any company that has a qualifying business relationship with Sudan."

The bill, introduced on March 8, was co-sponsored by Sens. John Cornyn, R-Texas; Arlen Specter, R-Pennsylvania; Joe Lieberman, D-Connecticut; and Barack Obama, D-Illinois. It was referred to the Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee.
