Although concrete is the most widely used building material in the world, the fundamental mechanisms affecting the behaviour of this ubiquitous material are very poorly understood. This is because both the chemical and physical characteristics are complex.
In spite of the internet and many technical journals, the industry is poor at understanding and coordinating, let alone helping to direct, the research and development so urgently needed.
