We have developed the Virtual Genetics Lab (VGL), a computer simulation of transmission genetics in a hypothetical insect. The program presents a student with a genetic phenomenon-the inheritance of a randomly-selected trait. The student's task is to determine how this trait is inherited. He/she constructs a genetic model for the phenomenon by designing his/her own experimental crosses; the results of these crosses arc generated by the software. He/she then analyzes the results, revises hypot...

Algebra teachers' utilization of problems requiring transfer between algebraic, numeric, and graphic representations.
School Science and Mathematics ; For students to develop an understanding of functions, they must have opportunities to solve problems that require them to transfer between algebraic, numeric, and graphic representations (transfer problems). Research has confirmed student difficulties with certain types of transfer problems and
"Languaging" factors affecting clients' acceptance of forgiveness intervention in marital therapy
Journal of Marital and Family Therapy ; Forgiveness is a significant intervention for healing interpersonal injury. Yet therapists do not often use forgiveness intervention. Employing a semantic perspective and a survey design (n = 307), this study investigated whether the language used to rationalize forgiveness intervention (set at
MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS' PERCEPTIONS, PERSISTENCE, AND PERFORMANCE IN MATHEMATICAL PROBLEM SOLVING.
Learning Disability Quarterly ; Abstract. The purpose of this study was to explore middle school students' (N= 54) perceptions of problem difficulty, persistence, and knowledge and use of problem-solving strategies in solving mathematical word problems. Students identified as learning disabled, average achieving, or gifted were
