The Validity of the Principles of War

With stability operations and force transformation currently in vogue, is it not time to rethink the fundamentals of warfare known as the principles of war? Are they still valid in light of the Long War, which to many does not seem to be a war at all? What American and Coalition forces face today are more constabulary operations where the adjectives offensive and defensive have different connotations from those describing combat as recently as Operation Desert Storm.
